Welcome to Kal-Kota Ranch, located near Steele, North Dakota. Kal-Kota is a family operated ranch with my wife, Anne, and our son, Michael. We have been in the purebred cattle business for 41 years and we currently run about 275 purebred Red Angus and Gelbvieh cows. Our ranch is located in a low rainfall region and it requires about 10 -12 acres to run each cow/calf pair.

We have an annual production sale that is held the last week of February. The 27th edition of our annual sale will be held on February 24, 2008. We will be selling Red Angus, Gelbvieh and Balancer Hybrid bulls along with an excellent group of females and some select Red Angus embryos.

In addition, we have an extensive embryo transplant program that allows us to use elite females within the Red Angus and Gelbvieh breeds. This enables us to greatly improve the genetics in our herd in a short time period.

Furthermore, we show our cattle at State and Regional shows to see how our genetics compare with other cattle producers within the Red Angus and Gelbvieh breeds.

Kal-Kota Ranch is dedicated to improving the carcass performance in our cattle. This past year we collected carcass data on our steers and 93% graded Choice or better. The rib eye area on these steers ranged from 12.7 to 13.1 square inches.
